Story: Rambabu( Gopichand) does nothing except roaming on the roads and enjoying with his friends, his parents’(Chandra Mohan, Jayasudha) love towards him spoils him even more. Rambabu falls in love with Nandini (Deeksha Seth) who is a medical student and she is not interested in him, Rambabu chases her and makes her agree on one condition ---What’s that? And what happens after that forms the rest?

Performances: Gopichand is okay in the role, he has done such roles earlier also, and he is impressive with his regular body language. Deeksha Seth is okay in looks and tried to act a bit, a lot is left to improve. Jayasudha and Chandra Mohan are okay. Brahmanandam track doesn’t impress much. Music by Chakri is good with a couple of good Songs. Cinematography is good. Editing is mediocre. Story is weak. Screenplay is predictable and Direction is mediocre.

Analysis: Gopichand has done a similar role in ‘Okkadunnadu’ (has no career goal, later becomes responsible), so this role is no way different from his earlier ones. He has done an okay job. Deeksha got a full length (solo) heroine role and she is okay, her performance needs some improvement and she is very bad at dancing(Immediate dance classes are suggested). Jayasudha and Chandra Mohan characters appeared artificial and over acting at times. Brahmanandam track is okay initially but later irritates you most.

Another Writer turned Director (BVS.Ravi) makes his debut with this film. Director concentrated more on presenting the old stuff rather than working on a strong story point and interesting Narration. Screenplay too is very much predictable. Dialogues are Okay (good Dialogues are expected from a writer actually). Direction is mediocre.

The Fight Sequences are lengthy and utterly boring. Music is good with a couple of melody numbers but the placement is wrong. Editing is not sleek, Art work is mediocre. Cinematography is good. Story has no interesting element and the first half is dragged a bit and second half too is not impressive either. There is no strong villainy or a clash point between Hero-Villain. The flashback (killing the whole family of heroine) reminds us of “ATHANOKKADE”. Entertainment is very low. Ali is not utilized properly.Don't get excited or build expectations on watching the trailers, The Title Wanted is no way related to the movie.

If Gopichand continues doing the regular old stuff he may not come out of the flop streak that is continuing.

Verdict: Disappointing flick, Could have been better if handled well.

Madhur Bhandarkar has moved out of the hard hitting films and tried his hands for a rom-com Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji.

The film revolves around the lives of three guys, Naren (Ajay Devgn), Abhay or Abby (Emraan Hashmi) and Milind (Omi Vaidya) and their tryst with love. Naren is a mild natured banker, heartbroken after separation from wife.

Abby a gym instructor lives his life by flirting and on the riches of his girlfriends and finally Milind is still saving himself for his true love.

Bhandarkar has stated that the film is as real as his other flicks like Chadni Bar, Corporate and Jail. But with DTBHJ the director might have done away with the voyeurism, however, there are still some crass elements to it.

So while one might feel it is a rom-com, dont be taken aback when a replies like Any way you like it is thrown at the audience by a gay character when asked how is one doing?

There are some subtleties in the film and Narene character is the most layered one; Emraan fits the bill as the Casanonva guy but at times just over does it.

However Tisca Chopra as a former supermodel is the least impressive one in spite of being a superb actress. On the other hand Shazahn is quite convincing as the ditzy 20 year old girl.

So as the audience it is advisable to keep ones expectation low in spite of being a Bhandarkar movie.

The film is clumsy and prolonged at times and lacks in having the flesh that other films by the director can boast of, hence the film gets an odd rating.

Launch of GSLV-F06 / GSAT-5P Mission Postponed

Launch of GSLV-F06 / GSAT-5P Mission Postponed

The launch of GSLV-F06 with GSAT-5P Satellite onboard, scheduled for December 20, 2010 has been postponed due to a minor leak in one of the valves of the Russian Cryogenic stage, observed during the pre-countdown checks.

The 29-hours countdown sequence planned to commence at 1100 hrs today (Dec 19th) has not been authorized by the Launch Authorisation Board that met this forenoon to review the results of pre-countdown checks.

The revised schedule for launch will be firmed up after ascertaining the cause for the leak, remedial actions and due verifications.

GSLV F06 - GSAT 5P Mission : Time to prove the mettle

Indias Pride, ISRO is getting ready the launch of GSLV F06 vehicle from its Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Center at Shriharikota. The Mission is to sent a satellite GSAT 5P into the Geo-Synchronous Orbit.

GSLV F06 at Second Launch Pad

The Count down time is to begin at 11.01 on 19/12/2001. Its a 30 Hour Count Down Time (CDT). The vehicle will undergo several Level Checks during the CDT. The Liquid propellant filling into the Second Stage i.e L37.5 Liquid Engine and Third Stage i.e Cryo Stage C15 will also takes place during the CDT.

The GSLV F06 Rocket is 51-metre tall, weighs 418 tonnes and costs around 175 crore. The satellite, with a payload of 2,310 kg, has a price tag of 185 crore.
The total cost is around 360 Crore

ISRO successfully conducted the launch rehearsal on Friday without the rocket’s second and third stage engines being filled with liquid and cryogenic fuel respectively. Isro officials said the process of filling the liquid and cryogenic fuel will begin during the countdown and end 30 minutes before the actual flight.

The onboard gases will be filled to the required pressure and the rocket's electronics will also be checked, they said. The GSAT-5P satellite, with a mission life of about 14 years, has 36 transponders, an automatic receiver and transmitter of communication and broadcast signals. Successful launch of the satellite will take the agency’s transponder capacity to around 235 from 200 in orbit now.

The Russian cryogenic engine would power the GSLV during the flight on Monday. It would be more powerful than those used in previous GSLV missions. It would be the sixth GSLV flight powered by Russian cryogenic engines.

Story: Ram is a graffiti painter in Australia-- he falls in love with Jaanu (Genelia), Ram always speaks truth and it lands him in trouble. Ram doesn’t believe in a person loving his/her spouse for the rest of their life time. Ruba (Shazahn Padamsee) acted as girl friend to ram in his flashback episode. How is Ram and Keerthi’s relationship is going to end up is what the movie is about?

Performances: Ram Charan delivered good performance; he has given his best till date. Genelia is okay and scores good marks with matured performance (second half). Brahmanandam is okay in a couple of scenes. Prabhu, Prakash Raj and other supporting cast are okay. Vennela Kishore and other friends’ gang are okay. Music is fantastic, it scores more marks. Cinematography and art work are fine. Screenplay could have been better. Dialogues are okay. Narration is okay.

All the songs are picturised well. Charan is at ease in all the songs. Songs looked great on the screen with colorful backdrops, they are lovable and lively. “Ruba Ruba” stands as the best song on the Screen and “Chilipiga” and “Nenu Nuvvantu” follow the order. In addition to the songs in the Music album you can find a small Music bit in the start of the film (hero driving his car).

Ram Charan improved a lot in terms of action, he performed the role well, and He owned the character and has given his best. He is good at dances also. Genelia is okay, her looks are different from previous movies, and she looked good only in some Scenes. Her make up is not uniform. Shazahn Padamsee looked fresh and is a relief in the second half. Brahmanandam as puppy (uncle to Genelia) is okay. Initially he irritates with repetitive dialogue ‘I Love Love stories’- but latter delivers some fun moments. Vennela Kishore is wasted. Sanjay Swarup and Manjula have played as sister and brother-in-law characters for Ram. Prakash Raj and Prabhu are okay in brief appearances.

Music by Harris Jayraj supported by good lyrics is definitely a plus to this love story. Harris has come out with trendy youthful Music which gets into the ears and then to the hearts slowly. Soulful Music with good job in the background score lifts the mood of the film. Cinematography is good. Art work is fine. Editing is okay (good in the songs). Dialogues are good to some extent but can be better.

The director wanted to narrate a small, common and genuine point by making the story complex and at last came out with half baked Scenes and some where lost the complete feel more depth is expected from a Director like Baskar. The climax even though ends on a happy note it could have handled better. A Love story with a Small story element narrated with much freshness and liveliness. The movie is targeted at urbane/Class Audience. If you are a fan of Ram Charan and if you can bear Genelia’s hyper/Over Action (Initial Scenes), then you are going to like the movie well. Go for It.

We have to wait and See how the Mass Audience and the B, C Centers embrace this flick. If Promoted well and Youth get connected to the Love elements then the film maybe a sleeper hit.

First time in Tollywood with Digital Cameras

Jr.NTR's new movie with director Surender Reddy was launched today at Annapoorna Studios. Tentatively titled Rachcha, the movie is produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad and will also star Shyam of Kick fame. The director has reportedly opted for digital cameras for this film. If this goes as planned, this will be the first major commercial Telugu movie that will be shot completely on Digital Cameras.

The movie is touted to have amazing action sequences. For action sequences usage of visual effects has become quite common these days and using digital camera apparently helps with the computer graphics. Hence director Surender Reddy has decided to employ digital cameras.

It is heard that ARRI FLEX cameras will be used for the movie. Generally ARRI company cameras are used to capture action. ARRI FLEX cameras are the first digital cameras from the company. It is learnt that methodology of using non-digital cameras and digital cameras of ARRI company is quite similar, hence the cinematography team has opted for ARRI FLEX.

Only recently movies like Rakta Charitra were shot on Red Cameras, which are digital camera. However, Rakta Charitra cannot be completely considered a full fledged Telugu film. Looks like a digital wave will sweep over Tollywood soon.

Ramcharan in Love with a Telangana Reddy Girl

The mega family has been making a lot of news these days and it is more to do with their personal activities than films. The hottest buzz is the romance between Allu Arjun and Sneha Reddy and the eventual marriage. While that seems to be confirmed, here is another interesting update.

A strong grapevine is making rounds about mega powerstar Ramcharan and his possible life partner. News is that Charan is also seeing a girl who hails from a Reddy community in the Telangana region. Though it is almost confirmed, it is not being made official, as per sources.

Given the political turmoil, this might come across as an interesting permutation. For now, many media channels and other private sources are trying to dig their best to uncover the truth in this news and few others are already on the hunt to discover this mystery Reddy girl who seems to have stolen the ‘Magadheera’s heart.

Manoj - the second son of Mohan Babu - is a jovial guy having no airs. He is quite friendly and very grounded in his behavior. He is always seen cutting cool jokes. We met Manoj at Think Smart office for a friendly chitchat. Here are the excerpts
What went wrong with Sri film? Sri is an action film right from the frame one till the climax. And I admit my performance was bad as I did not believe in the story and could not connect with the character and it reflected in the film. However I got good name in fights departments. I knew the result of the film halfway through the production. We (me and Sunil) used to tease director Dasarath that it is going to be a flop.
What about Raju Bhai? I loved the character of Donga Dongadi (debut film). Likewise I loved the character of Rajubhai as well. There is a realistic touch in Rajubhai character. The story of the film is about how a tapori joins the gang of goons. It is a family entertainer with realistic touch.

What are the highlights of Rajubhai? Songs and fights. The fights in this film are done without any wirework and computer graphics. There is a twist in the film. If that works out, the film will do well at the box office.

Tell us about the music of Rajubhai? I know Yuan Shankar Raja since my childhood and he is like a brother. Working for this film first topped his agenda over 8 simultaneous projects he is right now working on. All the tunes in this film are fresh. We took only one song from original and this song sports Sunil.
Tell us about director Surya Kiran? He is the one who came up with the idea of remaking Chitram Pesuthadi. That film was already being dubbed in Telugu when Surya Kiran narrated me the subject. We bought the rights and remade the film as Raju Bhai. The major advantage of working with Surya Kiran is that he is a terrific actor. He acts and then asks us to do that.

Did you make any changes in original? The original is a complete serious film. We added comedy touch in the first half and seriousness in the second half for the Telugu version.
You inherited the great voice of Mohan Babu. How do you feel about it? It is a blessing. I can speak just like my father. But my age does not suit that voice. I will try to develop my own modulation and dialogue delivery. May be as I grow up and become big, I use his voice modulation while doing serious character.

Are you open for multi-starrers? Yes. I am open for multi-starrers. Generally our heroes work in multistarrers only if the heroes belong to same family. My father and brother worked for Game. We all know the result. The chemistry did not workout between them as the real relationship of father-son dominated the screen relationship of protagonists.me too worked wit alu arjun of course it gots some fame but not satiesfied..now i was trying from another

But egos come first in Telugu film industry? I am open. If anybody gives an advertisement for actors, I would be the first person to stand in the line and give an audition. I don't mind even if I get rejected. But I am willing to try. I don't mind doing the roles of hero, villain or comedian. I am keen to break the barriers of ego and star feeling to act in interesting films. I have seen many actors with terrific talent not getting film chances. I want to put myself in their position and compete with them.

Do you do any homework to play a character? I think doing homework is very important while playing character. We don't have training or rehearsals while preparing for the films. I had the fortune of seeing the shooting of 'Planet of Apes' in USA. I observed Matt Damon doing rehearsals by observing apes. Hollywood makes greatest films ever and at the same time they do so much of homework unlike in Telugu films where we go to sets and work there without any preparation.

Who is your favorite actor? Rajendra Prasad is my favorite actor. I used to put banners in Tirupati theaters during his film releases. I feel that every actor should be like Rajendra Prasad who is very talented and versatile. I also like Kantha Rao.

Who is your favorite actress? My favorite actress keep on changing from time to time. Now it is Rani Mukherjee.
What is your dream role? I want to do a film like Tom Hanks' Castaway.
You have flexible body. How do you manage?
I run 6-7 kms a day. I got a flexible body and I survive on non-oil food when I want to slim down. My next film might require me to be extra thin. I will have to change my looks and shed lots of weight for that character.

Why are you so fascinated with Jackie Chan..?? I am a huge fan and I always wanted to meet him. I tried in LA and Hong Kong, but I missed him. I finally got a chance when he was in Hampi, India to shoot for Myth. It was my most memorable moment.
After working with you choreographer Ganesh Acharya opened that you have body movements of Hrithik Roshan and expressions of Govinda?
Chala ekkuvaidani anipinchindi. I should not listen to such compliments.
What is your next project?

It might get confirmed in a couple of weeks. I might be doing an experimental film in which I play a 'lean guy' (bakkodu) character

Paint the town Orange : Exclusive Interview with Ramcharan

The misty morning sky is a picture of blue and muted orange. The view of the city overlooking the calm pool waters from Chiranjeevi’s residence couldn’t be better. Taking in the sight over a cup of filter coffee, Ram Charan says with a smile, “I love to sit here on Diwali evening and see the entire city celebrating with firecrackers. The view is breathtaking, minus the air and noise pollution.” Charan is back home after the final shooting schedule for Bhaskar’s Orange in Australia and has a day-long dubbing routine before he can celebrate. “Ever since I started working, I don’t get enough time to enjoy the festival,” he rues.

All eyes are on him as his next outing, Orange, releases on November 19. Charan is aware that matching up to a roaring hit like Magadheera is no mean task. He is nervous, he admits. “I didn’t see myself doing another action film that can go beyond Magadheera at this point of my career. I had to move away from that genre and do a love story, a serious drama or a documentary. An urban, feel-good love story seemed like a safe bet. One of the recent love stories I enjoyed was Bhaskar’s Bommarillu,” says Charan. He laughs recalling how Bhaskar himself was surprised by his decision. “People literally stopped me from going for that meeting and even threatened Bhaskar. But I was sure of what I wanted to do.”

Orange, co-starring Genelia and Shahzahn Padamsee, is a coming-of-age film. “Until a month ago, even I wasn’t sure of what the colour orange had to do with my film,” laughs Charan. He adds, “Looking at it from another level, the colour stands for hope. The sky takes on shades of orange during sunrise and sunset, the colour that gives you hope that the sun will set only to rise again. Love stories thrive on hope. Life is one big love story with hundreds of little love stories within it.”

Charan knows he has to strike a balance between commerce and art and wonders why not many established stars take up feel-good love stories. “Nagarjuna is an exception. Geetanjali and Ninne Pelladuta are some of his finest movies apart from Shiva. Love stories are timeless. None of the top heroes have taken up love stories barring Pawan Kalyan in Khushi and Naga Chaitanya in Ye Maya Chesave,” he points out.

Orange, shot in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Australia, is not a ‘massy’ entertainer, he insists: “The theme is universal but the treatment is urban.” He assures that the film won’t present a touristy image of Australia and instead take us into coffee shops, alleys and little things that form a part of day-to-day life. “My character is like Ayn Rand. I am a graffiti artist and will not budge from what I believe in.” Quarter life crisis is dealt with a touch of comedy, he adds.

He is glad to be home: “I prefer shooting in India any day. When you shoot abroad, you work against time with just a couple of hours break. There is no time to shop even when you are shooting in the midst of shopping malls; there is no time for tantrums; you are focussed on work 24/7.”

After Orange, Charan will begin his next film, Merupu, to be directed by Tamil director Dharani, from November 20. “Dharani has a pulse on what people want and his films are unapologetic entertainers. Merupu is a sports film with focus on match fixing in football and analyses why the game has not become popular in India,” reveals Charan. The actor is learning to play football with the help of a coach from Australia. “It’s a strenuous game,” he says.

Meanwhile, talks are on for the Hindi film, Welcome to the Jungle. “We are in the discussion stages. Unless it is really exciting I won’t take up a Hindi film. The wider canvas is good but I am not looking for more fame and money. I don’t want to lose my privacy. I like being an ordinary guy and being unrecognised when I go to coffee shops in cities like Delhi,” he says.

Talk about the Hindi remake of Magadheera and he concedes, “We don’t know how things will shape up. Producers like Boney Kapoor have asked me to do the same role in Hindi. I am not sure if Magadheera will be the same with a different team.” Bollywood biggies are also vying to remake the film. “Aamir loved the movie and is taking time to see if he can fit into the role. I learnt that Shahid too is interested. Let’s see…”

Charan’s immediate focus is on promoting Orange after a vacation in London. “We will be reaching out to youngsters through rock concerts in Hyderabad and Vizag,” he says.

Story: Krishna- Krish (NTR) and Indu (Samantha) are in love, Bhoomi (kajal Aggarwal) and Indu are good friends. Indu requests Krish to act as boy friend of Bhoomi to save her from getting married to another person (Ajay) in the Village as she is keen in pursuing her higher studies. What happens when Krish enters Bhoomi’s village, what changes take place in the Village; how hero convinces her family members forms the rest.

Performances: NTR is good, he underplayed the character well. Samantha is okay and looked glamorous, Kajal is limited to traditional costumes. Prakash raj is good as usual, Srihari played yet another supporting character. Kota Srinivasa Rao is good as Grand father. Venu madhav’s role is good. Brahmanandam evoked some laughs with his typical action. Ahuthi Prasad and Raghu babu are okay. Cinematography is good. The Art direction and editing are fine. Music by Thaman is Average. Story is an Old one; Screenplay is good at some places. Direction is Okay.

Analysis: First things first the movie has no New story; you find the story gathered from a few hit films we have watched in the recent past. We have watched many stories where hero impresses the Heroines family members. This is another one of that kind.

The Music is Average; “Sureedu” Song is catchy. Thaman rehashed his earlier Tamil and Telugu Songs. The songs are well picturised with good Cinematography. The Background Score is not impressive. Art direction is good. Dialogues by Koratala Siva are okay at some places (even though reused many of Trivikram’s old Dialogues like “Nacchakapovataniki kaaranalu Vuntaayi Kaani Nacchataniki vundavu”, “Bhayam tho koodina Vinayam”).The fights are not as effective as they are filled with excessive wire work. At a point you may feel that you are watching a fast forwarded version of a TV serial. The Interval episode almost gives you a feel as if the movie is going to end up then only.

There are some scenes which have come out well

------The scene where Raghu babu and Ahuthi Prasad come back from the fields after work and get respected by the Family members.

------Prakash raj and Srihari getting united.

------Kota Revealing the truth towards the Climax

The director hasn’t concentrated on how the brothers got separated so he hasn’t thought much and given any strong reason why they got United also. The Story is an old one but the Screenplay is good in places. The Direction is Okay. The Production values are okay.

Jr.NTR played the role of a Lover Boy to attract the family crowd, He has done his bit well, most of the time he stands still and stares at others’ dialogues, to be frank his characterization is not well etched(It’s shown from the beginning that Krish has a soft corner for Bhoomi- But it’s not established why???). Brahmanadam evoked laughs in the second half with his Bommarillu father Role. Venu madhav’s role is entertaining (even though some scenes appeared repetitive).Venu madhav and Jr.NTR is a good combo when it comes to Comedy. They don’t disappoint this time

If you are an ardent fan of Jr.NTR then watch the movie with less expectation, as you are not going to find any hardcore and hard hitting Dialogues, Rocking Songs or steps and Fantastic Stunt Sequences. This is like any another family Drama in large quotients with a touch of love element and entertainment; story which you have found earlier done by many youthful actors like RAM or SIDDHARTHA.

The soft Title and lack of expectations on the Movie and the coming festive season may favour the output. The movie may fare moderately and there are chances of becoming a hit if NTR is accepted well as a cool Lover boy.

Plus: Star Cast, Family Drama Scenes.

Minus: Old Story, Poor Characterizations

Rating: 3/5

Verdict: Clean family Drama, Average Movie, No harm in watching in once

Latest buzz is that, already producer paid 7Crores and NTR demanded for clearance of remaining payment (pay the remaining 50Lakhs) before his dubbing, without clearance he said that he was not ready to say dubbing, so the producer had settled the total amount with NTR and then he completed his dubbing works.

Sources close to NTR says that his friends and well wishers had suggested NTR to take up only those projects whose budget will be minimum of Rs 30Crores and also, the remuneration must be nothing less than Rs 8Crores for him, However, those who have associated and worked with NTR says that he is too smart to set such stringent conditions and believes in making his presence more visible.

Tuskegee syphilis experiment

The Tuskegee syphilis experiment (also known as the Tuskegee syphilis study or Public Health Service syphilis study) was a clinical study conducted between 1932 and 1972 in Tuskegee, Alabama, by the U.S. Public Health Service. Investigators recruited 399 impoverished African-American sharecroppers with syphilis for research related to the natural progression of the untreated disease.

The Public Health Service, working with the Tuskegee Institute, began the study in 1932. Nearly 400 poor black men with syphilis from Macon County, Ala., were enrolled in the study. For participating in the study, the men were given free medical exams, free meals and free burial insurance. They were never told they had syphilis, nor were they ever treated for it. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the men were told they were being treated for "bad blood," a local term used to describe several illnesses, including syphilis, anemia and fatigue.

The 40-year study was controversial for reasons related to ethical standards, primarily because researchers failed to treat patients appropriately after the 1940s validation of penicillin as an effective cure for the disease. Revelation of study failures led to major changes in U.S. law and regulation on the protection of participants in clinical studies. Now studies require informed consent (with exceptions possible for U.S. Federal agencies which can be kept secret by Executive Order), communication of diagnosis, and accurate reporting of test results.

By 1947 penicillin had become the standard treatment for syphilis. Choices might have included treating all syphilitic subjects and closing the study, or splitting off a control group for testing with penicillin. Instead, the Tuskegee scientists continued the study, withholding penicillin and information about it from the patients. In addition, scientists prevented participants from accessing syphilis treatment programs available to others in the area. The study continued, under numerous supervisors, until 1972, when a leak to the press resulted in its termination. Victims included numerous men who died of syphilis, wives who contracted the disease, and children born with congenital syphilis.

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study, cited as "arguably the most infamous biomedical research study in U.S. history," led to the 1979 Belmont Report and the establishment of the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP). It also led to federal regulation requiring Institutional Review Boards for protection of human subjects in studies involving human subjects. The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) manages this responsibility within the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Story:
A tale of 'opposites attract', the story is set on the backdrop of US and here live two individuals. One is Akash (ranbir) who is based in New York and he sinks in his business. Then, there is Kiara (priyanka) who hails from San Francisco but she has failed in her love affair. As fate has it, both Akash and Kiara decide to commit suicide and end up at the same bridge at the same time. However, with 20 days left for the New Year and both sparking a conversation, they decide to make the most of it and end their lives on December 31st. what happens from there forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come up with a simple storyline but he was good at packing it well with nice presentation and interesting narrative. The dialogues were good, the script was well written and the screenplay was apt. Background score was appealing and two songs were worth taking home. Cinematography provided the visual feast. Editing could have been better. Costumes were trendy and the art department was good. Ranbir Kapoor has come up with an exceptional performance and he has proved his mettle. Priyanka Chopra was at her best again and she goes well with the character. Zayed Khan was brief but made his presence felt. Tanvi Azmi was good. The others did their bit as required and added value to the film.

Conclusion:
Though it was assumed to be a remake of a Hollywood movie, the film has an original touch to it and coupled with the good performances, the flavor was good. While the first half goes off smoothly and with a mild taste, it is the second half which really gets into the momentum and gives the required dose of entertainment and romance. This will appeal to those who are keen on emotional sequences. At the box office, high chance of scoring a hit is seen.

Verdict: Tender and touching, good!!

Not showing any nervous bouts and denying any existence of anxious moments, the lady here is super confident that her son Ranbir Kapoor has another successful film in hands.

"Success of his earlier films has shown that he has been making smart choices and succeeding quite well. Also, I managed to catch ANJAANA ANJAANI quite some time back so I pretty much know that he has delivered quite well. I know for sure that the film would strike a chord with the audience", says the proud mom who herself would be making a comeback to the big screen next week with DO DOONI CHAAR'.

Meanwhile, the lady who continues to be ever-so-gorgeous insists that neither she nor Rishi Kapoor ever tried to coach Ranbir despite having so many years of experience in Bollywood. "This is something that we were very sure about since the very beginning of Ranbir's career. He has been doing his own stuff. We never thought of teaching acting to Ranbir."

"Of course, whenever he has needed any help, we have always been there just like any other parents would be. But beyond that it's always up to him on how he wants to interpret a character and portray it on the screen. He makes his own decisions and we are proud of the choices that he has been making", she concludes.

It’s going to be delighted news to Ram Charan Teja fans as the audio of his much anticipated upcoming flick ‘Orange’ audio is going to hit the music stands on October 17th.

Orange is Charan’s high budget film and it casts bubbly actress Genelia and Shahzahan Padamsee playing the lead opposite him. Madhurima, heroine of Saradaga Kasepu’ fame is going to play a prominent role in the film.

The film is directed by ‘Bommarillu’ fame Bhaskar and produced by Naga Babu under Anjana Productions. Aditya Music has bagged the audio rights of the film for a huge amount. Harris Jayraj has scored the music.

Robo Movie Review: Telugu 2010

So ‘Robo’ is finally here. Rajnikanth, Aishwarya Rai, director Shankar, music director A.R.Rahman and cinematographer Ratnavel have been enticing audiences with all the talk about their movie. Some thought this would be a copy of Steven Speilberg’s ‘Artificial Intelligence’, or ‘I-Robot’ or ‘Bicentennial Man’ .

What’s it about: Dr.Vasheekaran (Rajnikanth) is a scientist in Hyderabad who is researching on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. He creates a robot, which is exactly similar to him. Vashee’s mom gives it the name ‘Chitti’ and Vashee’s girl friend Sana (Aishwarya Rai) completely adores the new robot. Chitti is not just any robot. It can read books by scanning them in few seconds, it has a zettabyte memory (highest possible for a computer!) , and works at a speed of one terabyte. Chitti can give the highest prime number possible within seconds which might take years for humans to find! But that’s the intellectual part. For common man it can do amazing fights, it can sing and dance but all without any human feeling and emotion.

Rajnikanth’s aim is to ensure that his Chitti, a Robotic Android be dedicated to the Indian Army. Though all is clear for Dr. Vashee’s Chitti to be taken into the Army, it isn’t approved by Professor Bora (Danny Denzongpa) because he thinks that Chitti can distinguish between what is right and what is wrong, and hence can be dangerous.

The way Vashee reacts after this sets off something in Chitti that becomes one of the most entertaining, thrilling, eventful, imaginative, innovative, and mind blowing experience in Indian Cinema.

What is Good: There are three Rajnikanths in the film. One is a serious looking, bearded, and talented scientist. You would think he’s done a perfect job for this role. However here’s a competitor to him – Rajnikanth himself as the innocent looking, sweet, but emotionless Robot. Just look at the way he says “Hello World!” Again Rajnikanth betters himself in the same film as the Villainous ‘Chitti’. His dialogue “Happy Diwali” made the crowds go into frenzy. It is amazing how Rajni looks, thinks and acts different for each character.

Aishwarya Rai is good too as Sana. Unlike many other Shankar’s heroines Sana has got character and she holds the story together. Aishwarya impresses one and all. The other actor who deserves a tremendous applause is Danny Denzongpa! Danny slight variations in his role that make him look very dangerous. However the actors are just one face of this Rubik’s cube called ‘Robo’. Shankar and his vision take all the other faces!

The first half is exceptional with the way it raises seemingly simple, but extremely profound questions like - can a robot have feelings, and if so what should its responsibility be?

Even in the second half there are those small references to Ramayana and Bhasmasura story, for those who can find them! At the end of it all boils down to individual, emotional and social responsibility of a human, raised because of the Robot!

Here is a list of some amazing scenes:
1. Chitti using Electrosmagnetic powers to attract few weapons to scare few people
2. Dr.Vashee showcasing Chitti to an auditorium filled with researchers
3. When Chitti is ‘tested’ by the ADR team including Professor Bora
4. The climax fight scenes where all the robots form different shapes including the already famous huge snake and a mammoth sized robot
5. The final message in the denouement (post climax)

What is bad: ‘Robo’ comes with its own flaws. When Bora easily confuses Chitti (in the first half), it is surprising that the intelligent Dr.Vashee cannot find a solution – give the robot one owner and specific instructions! When Dr.Vashee wants to destroy and trash his Chitti, he does it without following scientific protocol of destroying such ‘intelligent’ robots. Also similarities to few Hollywood films might disappoint few. The technical jargon might be a possible let down for audiences of B & C centers.

The beginning of the second half almost makes one laugh and scowl with the Robo finding newly given feelings and talking to mosquitoes. It meanders along lazily till the climax. The way the hero finally wins is also questionable, too vague and too convenient. However, the exceptional graphics make the audiences just watch the film in complete awe!

Technical Departments: : All 24 crafts of a movie never fail in it. The visual effects, and animatronics from the famous Stan Winston Studio are consistent with the script, exceptional and they deserve more adjectives to be added to a language. No wonder they have worked for ‘Avatar’!

Screenplay has the typical scenes of a Shankar film and has some flaws too. It seems Shankar found a way to justify the different sound Rahman employed for this movie. This movie is a fine example as to why Shankar is considered the best song director in the country – Just look at the way songs like ‘Kilimanjaro’, ‘Neelo Naalo’ are done!

Ratnavel’s cinematography is amazing, and editing is top notch. However, what puts the movie aside is Shankar’s honest vision which comes across through most of the film. It is Shankar’s movie from the beginning to the end, and possibly his best film till date.

Final Point: There is no way that ‘Robo’ can be compared to the likes of ‘Inception’, but for a South Indian film fan, this can be called Rajnikanth’s Inception without a doubt. It entertains, thrills, and makes one think of what’s possible! Don’t even think about giving it a miss, and watch it on big screen!

Mahindra will launch a performance motorcycle tomorrow in Mumbai. While most of us assumed Mahindra will christen it Diablo, we somehow get the feeling that Mahindra Mojo suits this bike better.
While Mahindra has not officially declared the specifications of this motorcycle, we’re taking it a step further by speculating on it and the Mahindra Mojo’s features.

Could the Mahindra Mojo be powered by a liquid cooled 300cc engine with fuel injection? When you’re talking of high displacement, the cooling system needs to be liquid. Liquid absorbs heat better, and Mahindra’s teaser video it previewed earlier this month, had a bike with a radiator. The Mahindra Mojo might be installed with a 4-valve engine. The bike’s electronic fuel injection system might come from an Italian motorcycle company (maybe Ducati?) which responds to throttle inputs as well as other parameters such as gradient and instructs the injector to deliver a richer mixture. The engine has dual exhausts which ease back pressure and should generate an awesome note while revved.

Mahindra Mojo suspension

The Mojo could come with inverted front forks usually found on motorcycles that belong to racing teams. At the rear Mahindra could fit the Mojo with gas chargers that respond to the terrain better and keep the riders on their seats all the time.

Mahindra Mojo brakes

The Mahindra Mojo could come fitted with disc brakes to the front and rear alloy wheels. The disc brakes provide immediate stopping power and suffer less from fading. They could also get radial calipers which are more effective compared to regular ones.

Mahindra Mojo instrument cluster

The Mahindra Mojo could get a digital instrument cluster that notifies the rider of speed, fuel remaining, rpm and time. There could also be an gear indicator and all this lights up on a blue background, perhaps?

Mahindra Mojo electricals

The Mojo gets twin headlamps (from the teaser video) and it could have LED tail lamps that are resistant to failure during extreme vibration, have longer life and consume lesser power. As a safety feature, Mahindra should think of placing LED indicator lights on the mirrors of the Mahindra Mojo.

‘With ‘Khaleja’ I’ve grown up as an actor. Till now, ‘Khaleja’ will be the best movie and ‘Sada Siva’ is the best song of my career. I thank both Trivikram and Mani Sharma for their support,’ said Mahesh Babu. Answering about the clash in releases of ‘Brindavanam’ and ‘Khaleja,’ Mahesh put it simply wishing that ‘Brindavanam’ will also be a big hit with all the ‘Good Luck’ from his side.

Let us also wish that Mahesh’s words come true and both these movies stay top for the year 2010.

Eamcet hit by SMS ban

Hyderabad, Sept. 24: The decision of the Centre to extend the ban on bulk SMS services till September 29, on account of the Allahabad High Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue, will hit over 1.5 lakh Eamcet qualified students who are eagerly waiting to hear if they have been granted admission to the engineering colleges.

The students were to be informed of the details via SMS on September 25.

The department of technical education had made all the arrangements to send an SMS to each Eamcet student on Saturday specifying the college and course they were allotted in the recently concluded web-based counselling. It had even entered into an MoU with BSNL for the purpose.

The results will now be sent via e-mail to students’ personal IDs. But another problem is that a majority of students from rural areas do not have e-mail IDs. “The seat allotment results will be mailed to each student. Those who have not provided e-mail IDs can know the results by visiting the Eamcet website,” said Mr Raghunath, camp officer, Eamcet admissions.

This is the first time that SMS was used for various purposes for the Eamcet, such as communicating the location of exam centres and announcing the exam marks and ranks.

Last night we finally saw the men’s singles final from the U.S. Open 2010 tennis tournament, at Flushing Meadows New York, after it was rained off from Sunday. It wasn’t all plain sailing though as there were yet more rain interruptions but every moment of inconvenience was worth it to see a classic match, that of Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovik.

It was Nadal who eventually became the winner and it was his first championship win at the US Open which means he has now won the full set of Grand Slam

titles, only the seventh man to ever do so. The eventual score over Djokovic was 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 and Nadal has now won 9 Grand Slam titles in total, according to Piers Newbery over on BBC Sport.

The match itself was worthy of the championship with both men coming out all guns blazing but the dogged determination from Nadal to complete his set of Grand Slam victories was just too much in the end for Djokovic, although he was a deserved finalist after his semi-final win against Roger Federer

. There was another rain interruption lasting almost 2 hours and when play resumed Djokovic had regained some momentum but eventually faded.

Nadal’s winning match point saw him fall to his knees and the emotion of his win was raw and touching. Nobody could have been in any doubt just how much this meant to the Spaniard although as usual he was gracious and humble towards his opponent, gaining even more fans. Nadal said at the trophy presentation, “That’s more than I dreamt. It’s just amazing to be here in this final, just to arrive in this final. To have this trophy here in a few seconds, with my hands, is going to be unbelievable.”

In India, Engineers' Day is celebrated on 15 September every year.

The day is the birthday of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, an eminent Indian engineer (from College Of Engg., Pune(COEP)) and statesman born in Muddenahalli-Kanivenarayanapura in present day Karnataka. He served as the chief engineer during construction of Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore. He also built many dams in the Bombay presidency (present day Maharashtra). The dams built by him are still functional even today, a testimony to his brilliance, skill, honesty and dedication. So 15 September, Engineer's Day 2010 which becomes 150 years since a legend was born, is quite a remarkable tribute to the greatest Indian Engineer Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvarayya.

Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (1860-1965) was called a wizard in engineering. He was also called the precursor of economic planning in India. He took an interest not in engineering alone, but was capable of applying his talent to many allied matters connected with the development of the nation.

His learned discourse on economic planning in India entitled 'Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India' was the first available document on the planning effort of the country and it is still held as the parent source matter for economic planners.

As per official sources the film has created a record by earning Rs 48 crores on the opening weekend, a decisive Rs 6 crores more than what 3 Idiots collected on its opening weekend.
Dabangg, that opened in theaters on September 10, has also surpassed Salman’s previous film records in the Gulf, UK (£332,673), North America – ($628,317) and with 14 prints, it grossed $80,000 in Australia on Friday alone making Dabangg Salman’s biggest hit overseas.
Dabangg's record collection prompted maverick film filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma to pronounce Dabangg helmer Abhinav Kashyup as the top director in Bollywood.

Yamuna Water Level Rises,One Meter Above Danger Mark

Punjab, Haryana villages flooded as rivers rise alarmingly.Close to 75 villages in Punjab andHaryana were flooded and thousands of acres of farm land inundated as the Yamuna, Satluj and other rivers rose to alarming levels and overflowed their banks due to incessant rains, an official said Friday.The rainfall over the past few days in the region and in the upper reaches of Himachal.

Fears of a flood in the national capital loomed large Friday with the Yamuna flowing above the danger mark and expected to rise further, but Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said there was no need to worry and the ’situation was under control’.The water level in the Yamuna reached the 205.60 meter mark Friday morning and is expected to breach 206 meters by evening, well over the danger mark. The river waters crossed the danger level 204.83 Thursday evening.

As old-timers recalled the 1978 floods when the river had crossed 207.48 meters, affecting more than 250,000 people, the government said there was no reason for worry. ‘The situation is under control, don’t worry,’ Dikshi told reporters on the sidelines of a function. ‘The amount of water which was to reach Delhi from Haryana has fortunately not reached Delhi.

‘I along with flood control minister Raj Kumar Chauhan are monitoring the situation following the release of over six lakh cusec of water. People have been evacuated from low lying areas and shifted to camps put up by the Delhi government. Food is also being provided to them,’ she added.

According to Deputy Commissioner, East Delhi, S.S. Ghonkrokta: ‘No area of Delhi is under any flood threat. ‘The panic is unnecessary. Delhi is totally safe. The water is coming and flowing downstream. There is some impact but it is limited only to river bed,’ Ghonkrokta told IANS. Areas that had been flooded in 1978 included low lying colonies like Batla House, Garhi Mandu, Yamuna Bazaar, Nigambodh Ghat, Shastri Park, Madanpur Khadar, ITO, Rajghat, Daryaganj, Model Town and Mukherjee Nagar as well as settlements along the river bank.

However, government officials rejected the contention that these areas are under threat stating that the embankments of the river were higher that what they were in 1978.

‘The embankments were not so strong in 1978. Now we have roads over the embankment. Unless the embankment is damaged, there is no threat of flood,’ Ghonkrokta said, blaming the media for panic. ‘There can be some waterlogging in the lower areas, but no flood.’

An official of the irrigation and flood control department detailed the government’s emergency measures.

‘Nearly 74 boats and 68 divers are ready. Besides, we have 85,850 empty cement bags, 3,582 cubic meters of stone, 11 trucks and 422 life jackets to meet the challenge.’

More than six lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hathni Kund Barrage in HaryanaWednesday. That has resulted in the river rising four to five centimetres every hour. The river bed, where cultivation takes place during dry months, had been totally evacuated last month after the first flood alert.

‘The people who cultivate on the Yamuna bed are not supposed to be there during the four months of monsoon, according to the agreement through which they have been given the land for cultivation,’ said Ghonkrokta.

Dikshit had said Thursday that only half the water released by Haryana had reached Delhi.

According to the government, over 100 booster pumps were fitted along the banks of the river to pump out water which may enter the low-lying areas.

Story: Gopalam (Rajendra Prasad) is a famous criminal and is a henpecked husband of Sita (Sitara). Parthu (Parthu) son of Gopalam kisses a girl in the college and mother of the girl (Telangana sakunthala) is after him to kill. He absconds to Bangkok and falls in love with Meenakshi (chahat). Parthu’s parents too agree for the marriage with Meenakshi. What happens after that?? Who stops them from getting married? What’s the story behind that is what all the film is about.

Performances: Rajendra Prasad is good, his mannerisms and comedy timing was good. Sitara and Kasturi are adequate. Parthu is a misfit. He is poor in delivering dialogues. All the heroines are more like B grade models. Music is bad. Art and cinematography are poor. Story is o.k. but the screenplay is weak. Direction is weak.

Analysis: Veeru.K has come up with yet another film. He has no hits to hit credit so far [Except an Average flick AAROPRANAM (starring Vineeth, Soundarya)], but keeps on trying to make comedy (so called) flicks one after the other. Gudu Gudu Gunjam was well (seniors) cast and they have done reasonably well too. But the young couple and their love track is pathetic. It irritates you a lot. The story by Marudhuri Raja is o.k. but the screenplay is very shabby. Director imitated Vamsy’s style of narration in many frames, and used BAPU paintings to express the situation in many Scenes. The hero Parthu Over acts through out and dances with high energy, there is no lip sync in many Scenes. All the heroines make a presence in every song even though not needed. They are used merely for glamour. Most of them are imports from Hindi television serials and you can spot them in bikinis most of the times.—One wonders how the censor Board has certified this film as ‘U’.

The First half of the film is pathetic. Second half is slightly better. The first half progresses dimension less. Krishna Bagwan has done an okay job. Brahmanandam dances for “Ek Niranjan” number. Venumadhav fails to evoke laughs in ADHURS -Chari Character. Telangana Sakuntala is loud as usual. The remaining cast is just passable.

Veeru K, the protégé of SV Krishna Reddy, dismally failed in providing entertainment nor narrating a gripping story. He still repeats the same formula of (Using old hit numbers) picturising bit songs on the lead pair. Veeru has to mend his way and concentrate on all aspects of filmmaking, story, screenplay and technical arenas as well. The Music is very bad. The background score???— using old instrumental Hit songs--- can we call it BGM. Dialogues are good occasionally and evoke some humour. Cinematography and other technical departments fail miserably to make a mark. The film looks like a serial telecasted in small screen due to poor and pathetic presentation of technical aspects

Verdict: Disappointing on all vistas, if you are a fan of Rajendra Prasad you can catch it when it comes out as a DVD or watch it on TV (which I guess would be pretty soon!)

Story:

Durga Of Gaayam changes his name and identity and lives as Ram (Jagapathi Babu) with his wife Vidya (Vimala Raman) and child in Bangkok . One day he comes to limelight as he saves a waitress who works in his restaurant from cold blooded murderers. Guru Narayana (Kota Srinivasa Rao) and his son Shankar Narayana (Kota Prasad) make an attempt to find whether he is Durga or not. What happens after his identity gets disclosed? Forms the remaining plot.

Performances:

Jagapathi Babu is good in his serious looks as usual and looked romantic as a family man too. Vimala Raman is okay as his wife. Kota Srinivasa Rao steals the show as usual. He has come up with yet another powerful performance. Kota Prasad, Jeeva, Ravi kale are okay in their roles. Cinematography is cool. Editing can be better. Music by Ilayaraja is good. Story is good with slow Screenplay. The direction is Okay in parts.

Analysis:

Gaayam - 2 is the sequel of blockbuster movie Gayam released in 1993. Siva Krishna and Revathy have done friendly appearances to continue the prequel. Tanikella bharani and Kota Srinivasa Rao continued in their memorable roles (Lawyer Saab and Guru Narayana). Story wise it’s a good attempt to come up with such script, But the supporting Scenes weren’t as effective as the previous one.

Jagapathi has come up with good variations in his role. He is good in both the shades (family man and rough Don). Vimala Raman has a very limited role. The Onscreen Chemistry between Vimala Raman and Jagapathi was good. The 2nd song picturised on them looked romantic and hot. Kota Srinivasa Rao has once again come up with fantastic performance. He continued the same slang followed in the previous one. The duo Tanikella bharani and Kota repeated the same magic again. Kota Prasad as angry son has done a bit of over action in a couple of scenes.
The first half has most of the scenes shot in Bangkok and the second half takes place in Hyderabad City . The first half is slow with a couple of montage songs filled with sensuous visualization. Music by Ilayaraja is good. Background Score is fantastic. The Cinematography is okay, the reddish tint used throughout gives a different feel. Editing can be better. The story is good but the Screenplay is not effective. The Direction is okay only in bits and pieces. If you have missed the original version (I guess not many have) also you are going to miss nothing as a re-cap of the prequel is shown. The Suicides (With a Note in their hands) happening for the sake of Political leaders were dealt well, the pre-Climax Scenes have come up well. The racy Screenplay and thrilling moments are missing in this sequel .The Emotional content too have gone missing in this sequel some how.

We have to wait and see whether the Audiences get connected with this Crime/Action filled Sequel or not.

Plus: Performances, Music, Kota Srinivasa Rao
Minus: Slow narration, Lacks emotional content

Verdict: Moderately done, GAAYAM-2 May not be a Perfect Sequel but definetely Can be watched once for performances.

We are Family Movie Review Hindi 2010

We Are Family is the official adaptation of Chris Columbus' Stepmom (1998) and lots of us have already watched this Julia Roberts - Susan Sarandon starrer. Even otherwise, the story of a woman, diagnosed with a terminal illness, entrusting her kids to the 'other woman' before she does the final salute, gives the feeling of deja vu. But We Are Family is not a tear-jerker. Sure, it has dollops of emotions, but also integrates the light moments wonderfully in those 12 reel.

But debutant director Siddharth P. Malhotra surprises you constantly. Casting the best available talent for two pivotal parts and doing complete justice to their roles is tough. Very tough. But the ease with which he handles the tense moments between the women and also the emotional finale shows he has learnt his lessons well from his peers.

Final word? We Are Family is for the family. It is well acted, deftly written, entertaining and broadly appealing drama. Watch it with someone you love!

Maya (Kajol) is the perfect mother. Her life revolves around her three children, Aleya (Aanchal Munjal), Ankush (Nominath Ginsberg) and Anjali (Diya Sonecha). Despite being divorced from her husband Aman (Arjun Rampal), Maya has ensured that everything runs smoothly in her house, under her watch, and that they continue to remain a happy family unit.

When Aman introduces his girlfriend, Shreya (Kareena Kapoor), a career-oriented woman, the situation takes an unexpected turn. However, Maya is diagnosed with a terminal illness and circumstances bring the two women under the same roof. Can two mothers make a home?

With a plot like this, you expect We Are Family to be an out-and-out serious outing. However, the film has its serious moments, but the director ensures that it doesn't come across as a gloomy and serious fare. In fact, the generous dose of light moments in the narrative keeps the drama fluid. There's an inherent sensitivity that the director brings in, which keeps you involved for most parts.

On the flip side, the film tends to stagnate in the middle of the second hour. One expects the story to move forward, but there's not much movement here (thankfully, the film picks up wonderfully towards the penultimate reels). Also, the music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a complete letdown. You feel it all the more because Dharma is synonymous with excellent music. The only redeeming track in the enterprise is 'Let's Rock', which is high on energy. S-E-L need to reinvent themselves by experimenting a little more.

Director Siddharth P. Malhotra handles the dramatic portions best. The tense moments between Kajol and Kareena, the confrontation between the two and also the cold stares that they exchange time and again have been captured very well. The gradual transformation in Kajol's looks, from striking and energetic to pale and morose, is also well projected. The finale is the best part of the enterprise and can be best described in one word: Outstanding. However, like I pointed out earlier, the writing could've been tighter towards the second hour.

Mohanan's cinematography is eye-catching and the locales of Australia only enhance the look of the film. Niranjan Iyengar's dialogue are decent at places, but a few lines are amazingly real. The background score (Raju Singh) is first-rate.

We Are Family gives the two popular actresses an opportunity to sink their teeth into strongly drawn, juicy, challenging and interesting female roles that move beyond the normal stereotypes. The scene stealer is, without doubt, Kajol. She expresses the gamut of emotions brilliantly and speaks a million words even when silent. This is yet another incredible performance from an actor par excellence. Kareena excels yet again and her sequences with the kids are a delight. In fact, casting Kareena as the Stepmom is just right, since she's the only actor who can stand up to Kajol in high-voltage scenes and that's because Kareena is a powerful actor herself. Arjun continues to surprise. Rock On, Housefull, Raajneeti and now We Are Family indicates the growth of this actor. He handles the emotional moments well too. The kids - all three of them - are superb. In fact, the casting of the kids [done by Shanoo Sharma] is an ace.

On the whole, We Are Family is a perfect family film with a good mix of emotions and humour. Plus, a brilliant climax, which will ensure that the film grows with a strong word of mouth. The last film which came close to being a family outing was Paa. Before that, the only quintessential family film was Baghban. We Are Family is the kind of film that should work instantly with ladies and when ladies watch such films, they bring their spouses and children along. Recommended!

The Story : Dabangg (Dabang) movie is a hard-hitting, entertaining, emotional narrative that unfolds grippingly in a region that has place only for the fearless.

The movie is set in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Salman Khan plays a character with negative shades in the film. His role is that of a corrupt police officer, named Chulbul Pandey, also known as Robinhood Pandey. The film tries to highlight the flaws and loopholes in the system.

The fight between good and bad has been the fodder of many a Hindi film of 1970s and 1980s. In fact, it wouldn't be erroneous to state that these films dominated the cinema of yore and a lot of us, who have grown up on masala films/wholesome entertainers, will vividly recall the serpentine queues outside cinema halls and a mad scramble to book the tickets of those films. Hardcore masala films were relished with glee by the audience then.
However, for some inexplicable reason, masala films became extinct or should I say, disappeared from the face of Hindi cinema over a period of time. Ghajini and Wanted revived this genre, bringing back memories of the bygone era. Now Dabangg takes this genre one step ahead.

Be forewarned. Dabangg is rustic, has loads of action, harps on the age-old mother-son and varied relationships (half-brother, step-father), eventually turns into a vendetta fare, has a number of songs placed smartly in the narrative (including an item number)... but the packaging is slick and polished. Sure, it's old wine, but packed in a brand new bottle, with a new brand ambassador (Salman Khan) endorsing this masalathon.

Most importantly, it has Salman like never before. Breathing fire and venom, Chulbul Pandey aka Robinhood Pandey taps Salman's star power like no film has and the result is sheer magic. In fact, Dabangg stands on three pillars - Salman's star power, smashing stunts and super music.

Final word? Salman fans, rejoice! You walk in Dabangg with 100% expectations and you exit with 200% gratification. Entertainment guaranteed. This film will create a pandemonium of sorts, a mass hysteria, crushing old records and setting new benchmarks at the box-office.

Set in Uttar Pradesh, Dabangg is a story of Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan), a totally fearless but corrupt police officer with unorthodox working methods. But even the most fearless at times face a tough fight with their innermost demons. Chulbul has had a bitter childhood. His father passed away when he was very young, after which his mother (Dimple Kapadia) married Prajapati Pandey (Vinod Khanna). Together, they had a son Makhanchan (Arbaaz Khan).

Prajapati favors Makhanchan, which does not go down well with Chulbul. He decides to take control of his destiny and detaches himself from his step-father and half-brother. His sole attachment is his mother. However, after his mother's demise and an unsuccessful attempt to mend wounds, Chulbul snaps all ties with his step-father and half-brother.

Rajo (Sonakshi Sinha), with her unique perspective of life, enters his world and turns life upside down. Chulbul starts to see life more positively and also gets sensitized to the value of a family. But his detractors, especially the dubious Cheddi Singh (Sonu Sood), have their own vested interests and emerge as spokes in the wheels, putting one brother against the other. Makhanchan ends up carrying out an act oblivious to the consequences.

When Makhanchan realizes he has been used, he turns to Chulbul. Will Chulbul take his extended hand? Will the brothers be able to thwart their detractors?

The job of a promo is to give a gist of the film and prepare the audience well in advance about what to expect when they saunter into an auditorium. The promos of Dabangg have sent the right signals to the audience about it being a paisa vasool entertainer. Let's face it, Dabangg has nothing ground-breaking to offer as far as its plot is concerned. We've visited similar stories in the past, but what makes Dabangg shine, and shine brightly, is Salman's star power, which camouflages the aberrations wonderfully. The darling of the masses has been cast in a role that his fans love to see him in, which explains why this film works from start to end.

Like I pointed out earlier, Dabangg is special for two more reasons: S. Vijayan's stunts and Sajid-Wajid's music, with an additional song by Lalit Pandit. Talking of action scenes, Salman's introduction at the start and the fight-to-finish in the climax will send the masses in frenzy. To state that the action scenes are outstanding, especially the fight in the finale, would be an understatement. In the finale fight, when Salman's shirt tears apart and the rippling muscles and the bare-chest fight ensues, mark my words, it will lead to chaos at mass-dominated centres, especially at single screens. The climax will be one of the prime reasons for repeat viewing, for sure.

It's difficult to accommodate music in an action film, but Sajid-Wajid come up with a melodious score. The title track, 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' and 'Munni' (composed by Lalit Pandit) are the icing on the cake.

Director Abhinay Singh Kashyap is in his element. He's made an out and out entertainer with an eye at the masses and he succeeds in his endeavour. Doing justice to vintage formula is no cakewalk, let's not forget. Besides, the director stays away from going overdramatic while handling the dramatic and emotional moments. This explains why you don't exit the theatre with a spinning head. Mahesh Limaye's cinematography is perfect. I'd like to make a note of the editing (Pranav V. Dhiwar), which is super-slick in action scenes. Dialogue, especially those delivered by Salman, will be greeted with claps and whistles. Especially the one 'Itne chhed karunga'.

Salman Khan is the boss, when it comes to playing to the masses. This film reaffirms this truth. The role provides him ample opportunity to prove his star power and he does it with remarkable ease. Let me put it on record. Dabangg is yet another landmark film in his career, besides Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Judwaa [tapping the funny side), Tere Naam (tapping the emotional side) and Wanted.

Sonakshi Sinha looks fresh, acts confidently and pairs off very well with Salman. Most importantly, she delivers the right expressions and is not overpowered by the galaxy of stars in the cast. Arbaaz Khan is efficient. He underplays his part well. Sonu Sood is electrifying, matching up to Salman at every step. In fact, the fight in the finale between Salman and Sonu is awe-inspiring.

Vinod Khanna is excellent in a role that has grey shades. Dimple Kapadia is truly wonderful. Anupam Kher is, as always, good. Ditto for Om Puri. Mahesh Manjrekar doesn't get ample scope. Mahi Gill is alright. Tinnu Anand is effective. Murli Sharma is nice. Malaika Arora Khan sizzles in the 'Munni' track.

On the whole, Dabangg is a full on entertainer with three aces - Salman Khan like never before, stylish action and super music. It's a foregone conclusion that Dabangg will open huge. As far as the business prospects are concerned, the film will set new benchmarks, so much so that Dabangg will be one of the yardsticks to gauge the level of business in times to come. Sure to fetch an earth-shattering opening, the film will create a pandemonium at the box-office, cementing the status of Salman Khan as the darling of the masses and making the distributors laugh all the way to the bank. It has Blockbuster written all over it!

Thakita Thakita Movie Review Telugu 2010

Youth-based films in Telugu cinema suffer from some innate contradictions. For one, the more they change, the more they tend to remain the same. Not surprisingly at all, Thakita Thakita does just that, while putting up a facade of being "out of this world".

The problem is that pretenses, however good, usually wear off, and the cookie starts to crumble just seconds into the film, as a 51 year-old Nagarjuna (formerly a "Yuva" Samrat himself) turns up to put it in perspective, introducing the unknown faces. Indeed, patronage in this part of the world is a different animal altogether.

Soon enough, Anushka walks in to make the second surprise appearance. Guess we're all suckers for the reassuring comforts that familiarity offers. At least, that is what our filmmakers seem to think.
As for the story, Sri, Chandana, Nandini, Kishore, Mahesh, Scud and Bhakti are a bunch of buddies together from school. Then, there's Jessica, a "firang" who stays as a paying guest at the rich Chandana's home.

Nandini loves Kishore, her senior. Her father, though, doesn't approve of their love. Mahesh and Scud have an old-boys' tiff going on between them because of which they can't stand each other.
Sri is madly in love with Chandana, but waits to settle down in life before declaring his love. Chandana is also in love with him, by the way. They both have a strong reason for playing dumb, which is actually the crux of the film - the message, rather.

There's also Dakshayini, who is also crazy about Sri and would stop at nothing to have her man. Then, there's Bhakti, a happy go lucky girl.

How these kids come of age, rising above the challenges life dishes out, makes up the rest of the predictable story. Of course, the film does not stop at that. You cannot have a Telugu film about youth without a message, can you?

Thakita Thakita takes a stand on many burning issues facing the young today, including acid attacks on girls, suicides, misunderstandings and self-esteem issues. There's so much righteousness packed into the film that might actually make the more sensitive ones among us cry.

The performances, along with the music, stand head and shoulders over everything else. Harshvardhan Rane (Sri) and Haripriya (Chandana) get the most footage, and do a pretty good job. Both look fresh, and have a comforting screen presence.

The rest of the newcomers do a decent job, but there's really not much to do. The writing is good in patches, as some jokes tickle your funny bones while the rest just fall flat.

The music is, perhaps, the brightest spot in the film. While there is that sense of déjà vu at the back of your mind, Bobo Shashi's tunes leave you feeling nice.

The screen-play borders on the bizarre. The director, it seems relies on a combination of a lot of extreme close-ups and fancy editing to weave in some freshness, but it just does not come together. The film does look quite slick from the outside, but ends up looking a little too amateurish.

A few moments in the film (mostly the ones involving Sri and Chandana) stand out, but, all in all, it's more disappointing than inspiring. Watch it if you have to, best with a bunch of hooting, cat-calling gang of friends.

Story: Puli is the story of a sincere and focused police officer. Komaram Puli (Pawan kalyan) is an IPS officer and saves Prime minister from getting killed. He then forms a Team called Puli Team to restrict the crime rate and help the needful. Al Saleem (Manoj Bajpai) is a don and Puli suspects his hand in the murder attempt of The PM. How Puli Solves the case forms the rest.

Performances: Pawan kalyan has come up with rocking performance and suited well to the role of Ideal Police officer. Nikesha Patel is passable; she has a small role and is okay. Saranya impresses with her performance. Manoj Bajpai tops once again with his body language and mannerisms. The fight sequences and action episodes are of poor quality and below average. Art Direction and Cinematography are okay. Music by Rahman is Average. Screenplay is gripping and Dialogues are clap worthy. Direction is good.

Analysis: The Hit combination of Kushi---Pawan kalyan and S.J.Surya--- are back but with a different genre. The team has come up with a message oriented emotional story this time. SJ.Surya tried something different (out of board in many Scenes) from regular commercial format narration (Scenes). He tried to narrate the movie through emotions which come out in the form of heavy dialogues. Dialogues wise the Director has done a fantastic Job. I can’t mention a few of them as they are in a large number. But there are some Scenes which have come out well.

1) Saranya giving birth to a child(teaching him how to march-Left & Right)
2) Pawan’s speech when is awarded with a medal
3) Pawan and Charan Raj combination Scene in the park where master Bharath says that Saleem has done the bombings
4) Manoj Bajpai and Pawan kalyan combination Scenes(challenge Scenes and car Towing from No parking Zone)
5) Saranya delivering emotional dialogues in presence of Manoj Bajpai
6) Pawan’s Speech to media when Nassar passes away
7) Pawan’s extra ordinary performance in the pre-Climax episode

If you have missed Chiranjeevi’s “Rudranetra”, “Yuddhabhoomi” , “Marana Mrudhangam” and “Trinetrudu” then no issues you can watch Pawan firing with more sophisticated Guns here. The fight Sequences are filled with more of firing episodes than action thrilled. Pawan Kalyan’s Introduction fight Sequence is substandard with poor wire work and visual effects. There are some silly (villain giving current Shock to Pawan in climax) and funny –illogic Scenes which the team could have taken care off, There are some Scenes shot in Bangkok and abroad and the immediate Scene shot in a Studio referring it as Hyderabad City. The Screenplay is clumsy at times (Poor editing). The art Direction is okay and the cinematography is mediocre.

2) Maaralante( AR Rahman, KMMC)----- Comes as a background song/montages shot on Pawan’s Puli Team formation and their activities

4) Amma Thalley(Naresh Iyer, Swetha Mohan)----- Duet picturised on Nikesha and Pawan

5) Dochey(Shreya Goshal, Lady Kash N Krissy)----- item song picturised on Sriya

6) Power star (Vijay Prakash, Tanvi Shah)----- Duet picturised on Pawan and Nikesha, song with good timing in which Pawan shakes his leg.

The Film boasts mainly of fantastic performances by all, Manoj Bajpai and Saranya stand out of them Nassar is good. Ali is wasted. Nikesha appears in a couple of love Scenes followed by Songs. Hero-Heroine Love thread is disturbing and definitely a distraction to the flow of the film. Sriya has done guest appearance which includes a song. SJ Surya does a cameo as a police officer. Music by Rahman is Average and it looked just okay on the Screen. The Background Score is commendable. Dialogues are sharp and straight forward (even though lengthy and preachy).

Pawan kalyan looked handsome and performed with much ease, the emotional Scenes got elevated due to his performce. SJ Surya needs a pat on his back for picking such a weak story line yet engaging the Audiences with high emotional content. The direction is good and both the director and Pawan should be commended for the sincere and daring attempt. Fans who expect Pawan to romance with heroine and provide some fun and entertainment with his typical Mannerisms may get disappointed.

We have to wait and watch how this message oriented and thought provoking movie will be received by the mass crowds.

Mumbai, Aug 15 – Hyderabad-based Sreeram Chandra has won the fifth season of music reality show ‘Indian Idol 5′ and was awarded by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

The 24-year-old singer pipped Rakesh Maini from Agra and Bhoomi Trivedi of Baroda to win the contest. Sreeram has been consistently performing well on the show and receiving compliments galore from the Who’s Who of the Indian music industry.

His victory on the show has landed him Rs.5 million cash, one-year contract with Sony BMG, a Tata Winger car, and for the first time, a chance to sing a song in a Yash Raj Films’ project.

For Sreeram, winning the title on India’s Independence Day is a special feat.

Before winning the title, Sreeram told IANS: ‘Independence Day has always been important. If I win, I will feel lucky that I have received my identity on a day when my country celebrates its independence. For the rest of my life I will celebrate this day as my victory day.’

The finale, held at the Filmistan Studios here, saw a melange of celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Kailash Kher, Richa Sharma, Alisha Chinai, Shankar Mahadevan and to top it all Bollywood’s Big B, Amitabh Bachchan, who is set to host quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 4′.

Infosys Satish Gupta Falls Into The Suspect List Of Wife’s Murder

An Infosys employee, Satish Gupta, has been caught in a web of suspects, in the case of his wifes murder, Priyanka Gupta,30. Satish is being questioned by the police along with his other family members, in a conspiracy of planned murder.

Satish feel into the web of suspicion when he was noticed of going out on a morning walk with his leather shoes on, even though he has a lot of sports shoes at his residence. Secondly the person that has been accused of the murder is not a professional murderer at all, this came to the knowledge of the officials after an investigation into the case.

At the time when she was murdered, some Rs. 2 Lakhs were missing from her house and it clearly pointed out that there has been an attempt of robbery. But even though after noticing all this, the police officials state, that there is some from the family itself who has done this. The police officials have stated that the motive behind the case now looks very unclear, but by the time the investigation is in process, it will be known very soon.

Bangalore: Samsung has expanded the portfolio of its 'touch' phones in India by introducing two new models in the segment, Samsung Champ (C330) and Omnia Lite (B7300). Making the youth as its target consumers, Champ is priced modestly at Rs. 4,500. The all-in-one Windows 6.5 Pro based Omnia Lite comes with a price tag of Rs. 17,560.

Champ claims to be the first full touch mobile that can also function as a music player. It comes with a 2.4 inch QVGA touch screen, has an internal memory of 30MB that can be expanded up to 8GB with a microSD. The device is also equipped with wireless FM, dual speakers, and 3.5mm ear jack.

With a three page extended menu, the Champ comes with an advanced mobile tracker. One can customize the home screen and highlight the widgets and applications they would like to use. Users can connect to SNS like Facebook, MySpace, Photobucket, Flickr, Friendster, Picassa, and Twitter. It also supports USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.1 and provides up to 12 hours of talk time.

The Omnia Lite allows users to edit and view MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel and pdf files. Automatic updates of e-mails are possible due push mail facility with Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Note Traveler.

Other features that come with the handset comprise of MS Active Sync, Windows Open OS, Touch Wiz 2.0 UI and Opera browser. It comes with 3MP camera and offers talk time of 10 hours. The device gives DiVx and Xivd support and comes with 3G connectivity. It's 250MB of internal memory is expandable up to 32GB.

Ranjit Yadav, Director- Mobile & IT, Samsung India, said on the launch of the mobiles, ''While the Samsung Champ is a touch screen phone aimed at the young consumers who love music and enjoy an active online social life, the Omnia Lite is for consumers who want multimedia entertainment as well as business features on their phones.''

Naga Panchami, the festival of snakes is observed during Shravan month. Snakesare an indispensable part of Hindu religion and the two of the most popular Gods in Hinduism – Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva – are closely associated with serpents. Lord Vishnu has the several hooded Snake Ananta as his bed and Lord Shiva wear snakes as his ornament and this close association has deep symbolic meaning. In 2010, Nag Panchami date is August 14.

Nag Panchami is observed at two different times. It is observed on the fifth day after Purnima in Ashar Month in Eastern parts of India and the festival is known as Nagpanchami Manasa Devi Ashtanag Puja. The important Nag Panchami which is observed through out India falls on the fifth day after Amavasi in Shravan month.

Manasa Devi, the snake goddess, is worshipped on this day in Bengal, Orissa and several parts of North India. Special idols of Goddess Manasa are made and are worshipped during this period.

People also observe Vrata – some communities fast during the daytime and eat food only after sunset. Some people avoid salt on the day – food is consumed without salt. Deep fried things are avoided on the day. Some communities in South India have an elaborate oil bath on the day. There is a belief that unmarried women who undertake Nagpanchami Vrat and do the puja and feed snakeswill get good husbands.

Nag Panchami is Guga Navami in Punjab and a huge snake is made from flour and is worshippedon this day. Legend has it that Lord Krishna overpowered the huge black snake Kalia that terrorized his village on this day. The monsoon season is at is peak during the Shravana Month (July – August). The snakesmove out of their burrows, which are filled with water, and occupy spaces frequented by human beings.

So it is widely believed that Nag Panchami is observed to please the Snake Gods and avoid snake bites during this season. In many places, two idols of snakes are drawn on both sides of doors using cow dung on this day. Five-hooded idols are worshipped in many regions. The idol of five-hooded snake is made using mud, turmeric, sandal and saffron. Milk is offered to the snake idols and in some extreme form of worship people feed milk to live cobras.

The festival of Nag Panchami is yet another example of the influence of Mother Nature on Hinduism. It also shows the need for human beings to respect animals, which play an important role in the survival of human beings.

BSNL comes up with very Special Offers for 15th August
PATNA: The BSNL has come up with special offers on the occasion of Independence Day under Freedom Plan for its GSM mobile customers allowing freedom from recharge for one year for the voucher of Rs 110 purchased under the general plan, according to BSNL GM H S Dwivedi. The Rs 110 voucher will have Rs 100 talk time.

Other offers include freedom to talk local, STD and SMS free from 11 pm of August 14 to 6 am of August 15, to GSM customers who can enjoy unlimited local and STD calls on BSNL network free of cost. On August 15, the local and STD calls on BSNL network will be charged at the rate of 20 paise per minute. In case any customer is using the plan where the call rate is less that 20 paise per minute, he will be allowed the lower tariff.

Freedom of unlimited surfing will be allowed to the GSM customers through GPRS service on 2G mobile free of cost on August 15, 2010.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced the results for its Secondary School Certificate (SSC) supplementary 2010 results today, that is Monday, July 26, 2010 at 3 pm.

The results were announced by Maniya Vara Prasada Rao, Minister of Secondary Education. The results are available at AP Online and E-Seva Centres as well. A student needs to pay Rs. 10 for the result.

Jolie Shines Despite Script’s Imperfections!
The year of the female action hero continues with Angelina Jolie forcefully announcing her presence in Hollywood’s boys club in the political action thriller “Salt.” While Jolie’s performance is on par with her male counterparts, the film is sabotaged by a confusing script that fails to give the audience a protagonist to rally around.

For several years, there has been a slight but fundamental change in how Hollywood makes action films. Instead of the cartoonish depictions of the 1980s and ’90s, today’s action stars are more physical and gritty. Working from the same blueprint as franchises such as the Bourne and Bond films, director Phillip Noyce introduces audiences to sexy, female CIA agent and super-spy Evelyn Salt (Jolie). Two years removed from capture and brutal torture at the hands of the North Koreans, she is released and hailed as a patriot and hero. Soon the secret agent lady marries and returns to her post at the CIA along with her mentor and partner Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber), contented to be the best spy and wife possible.

On the way to celebrate her wedding anniversary, she and Winter are summoned to interrogate a senior Russian defector, Orlov (Daniel Olbrychski), who has information with serious national security implications. Joined by aggressive FBI agent Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor), the group observes what should be a routine interrogation. But Salt’s world is shattered when Orlov drops a bombshell: he fingers the beautiful agent as a Russian spy!

The chain of events now find Salt on the run to clear her name and locate her missing husband, with Peabody and Winter in hot pursuit trying to anticipate the super-spy’s next moves. In the tradition of characters like Jason Bourne, James Bond and even Bruce Willis’ John McClane, Salt uses any- and everything at her disposal to keep her pursuers at bay. Along with her special black bag containing money, disguises, guns and other necessary spy accessories, Salt must use her intelligence, guile and physical ability to abort the assassination of the Russian president while outsmarting her inter-agency adversary, the persistent Peabody.

Originally written as a vehicle for Tom Cruise, who passed on the film because he thought the story was too similar to his “Mission Impossible” character, his loss is certainly Jolie’s gain. Performing many of her own stunts and throwing herself into many of the role’s physically demanding scenes, Jolie is magnificent and very authentic as the action star. She has had plenty of practice in films such as “Wanted,” “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” and looks even more impressive despite her slight size.

Noyce uses many of the tricks from some of his former films — “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger” and even “The Saint” — to give “Salt” a heavy political tone that feels like the story could be ripped from today’s headlines. The problem is an ambiguous script by Kurt Wimmer, which has a protagonist with questionable political motives and a murky backstory that makes it hard for the audience to decide in whom they should place their loyalty.

Ejiofor (“Inside Man”) once again plays a well-intentioned but overmatched character that always seems one step behind the hero. Giving it his all, he is solid but deserves the chance to shine in the lead instead of perpetually providing support. Both he and Schreiber are serviceable secondary performers but this is Jolie’s action showcase. Possessing necessary big-screen bravado and swagger, Jolie fits in well with Lisabeth Salander (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and “Kick-Ass’” Hit Girl.

America has Americans. The English have Englishmen. France hosts the French, and so on, so forth. There is but no such thing as an Indian. There are only Punjabis, Gujaratis, Maharashtrians, Bengalis…

Akshay Kumar’s Sachin makes this linguistic observation about a truly imagined nation he lives in. Nothing unites the corrupted Indian, he says, besides a dishonest love for money: “Sirf jeb bharna hai, pet phulana hai (Just inflate your wallet, and the belly)”.

This master Sachin isn’t exactly some ‘angsty’ blaster himself. He’s a civil contractor by profession. When various levels of bureaucracy have apportioned their cuts on a designated project, he cuts down on the ingredients to build the given road. His colleagues similarly play with the mix of cement and iron when building bridges that eventually fall. It’s just that they do a bigger and better job of it. Sachin remains the poorer and unlucky one.

He wears Rayban aviator glasses indoors, tailored shirts with pleats in his baggy trousers; and bums around everywhere with an umbrella in hand, and a Reynold’s pen in his breast pocket. Caricaturist RK Laxman may not quite get this bumbling, young version of the Common Man who never spoke in his cartoons. This one prattles, babbles, raves, hams it up: does everything to catch his audience’s undivided attention. He has enough over-excited friends to outdo him, and keep the tone unbearably up still.

Sachin has Tichkule for a Maharashtrian surname, something he constantly repeats for our loud response. He lives with his father (Kulbushan Kharbanda), who in a unique effort toward national integration, speaks in thick Punjabi twang. There are other crooked Tichkules in this home you wouldn’t mind engaging with, were there chutkule (jokes) to match. The jokes, you can tell, have pretty much dried up. No amount of slapstick will wet this pool.

A humourless skit follows another then, in a script (Vellanakalude Nadu, originally in Malayalam) written over two decades ago, when potholes and politicians were even bigger civic concerns. Ol’ man Vajpayee should take credit for the way Indians drive their new Nanos now, at least over smooth national highways across the country. But that’s another story.

This one’s about wacky Akki alone. Truly, few things unite Indians, besides a high illiteracy rate, and films of Bollywood superstars. One benefits from the other. And Priyadarshan gets to churn out his own no-brainer remakes every other week.

By now, he should be able to re-structure footage, re-edit his past Hindi films as well, and release them over again with different titles. They all feel the same. Actors rotate in turns. Homes are havelis. Men dress in white. The story’s placed in the middle of anywhere. Jokes can certainly interchange.

Of all, you can hardly fault Akshay Kumar his fat salary (apparently he takes home over half a film’s budget). His presence also provides for more than regular employment to an entire set of unemployed losers. Asrani. Rajpal Yadav. Johnny Lever… It’s a good scheme.
